Robert Chelsea for The Boston Globe
Robert Chelsea could be the first African-American face transplant recipient, and at 68, also the oldest. Chelsea was injured in 2013 when a drunk driver hit his stopped car, which exploded into flames, causing him to be severely burned. It's harder and more complex to find African American donors who match, and doctors expect it to take longer than usual because there aren't as many black organ donors as there are white donors.
